  1. What is SMART?

  2. Where is SMART Control Centre located?
    The adress of our office is at SMART Control Centre, Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia, Jalan Berembang, Off KM5 Jalan Ampang, 55000 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

  3. What is the objectives of SMART??
    The primary objective of SMART is to alleviate flooding problem at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre due to stormwater from the Klang – Ampang catchment.

    Added benefit of SMART is to ease traffic congestion at the southern main gateway (TUDM at Sg. Besi) to the city centre.

  4. How does SMART alleviate flooding problem?
    During a major storm event, excess flood water of Klang River will be diverted to Kg. Berembang and detained in Berembang Holding Pond, the SMART stormwater tunnel and the Desa Park Detention Pond. This flood water will later be released back to Klang River near Old Klang Road bridge via Kerayong River when the storm is over. SMART Tunnel has total flood storage capacity of 3 million cubic meters

  5. How does SMART helps in reducing traffic??
    The unique feature of SMART is the 3km double-deck motorway within the 9.7km tunnel which starts near the Kg. Pandan roundabout in the city centre and ends at Kuala Lumpur – Seremban Highway next to TUDM Airfield at Sg. Besi. The operation of this 3km double-deck motorway has successfully eased the congestions in the city centre.

  6. Who manages SMART?
    The procedure for traffic tunnel closure begins at the SMART Control centre or SCC. This centre operates 24 hours / 7 days a week to monitor rainfall and river water level condition, and is managed by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia (DID).

    Meanwhile, the operation of the 3km double-deck motorway for traffic is managed by the concessionaire, Syarikat Mengurus Air Banjir dan Terowong Sdn. Bhd. (SMABT). Its Motorway Control Centre (MCC) is situated at Kg. Pandan roundabout and is also operational round the clock.
